GuateStar offers after-school and vacation programs that boost student success through personalized tutoring and academic support. Each student receives a computer or tablet that links them to our innovative MAYALink system, giving them access to digital lessons. Club Extra provides vital resources for students from homes without internet access. Our facilitators work one-on-one with students to help with homework and other activities designed to teach each student the love of learning.
During vacation breaks, Club Extra events let students dive into electronics, computer programming, robotics, and other exciting learning opportunities.
Club Extra gives children the extra help and encouragement needed to succeed.
Club Extra is hosted by an organizer (usually a student) in a home or at a community building.
Laptops, usually Chromebooks and tablets are used.
Students have WI-FI access to a host of content such as Khan Academy, Wikipedia and special educational programs.
Volunteer teachers are guides and encouragers that provide specialized attention to each student.

Next Steps
Club Extra adapts perfectly to each host community’s unique needs. Getting to these remote locations presents challenges, particularly in rainy seasons. The program currently needs additional tablets and laptops to expand its impact.
